For several months, APG employees have enjoyed dress-down Fridays while helping people in need. Each Friday in the last quarter of 2004, participating APG employees donated a $1 (or more) to a fund for a local charity. In all, APG employees raised $192.76, and APG's management generously matched the contribution, raising the total to $385.52. On December 10, 2004, the money was donated to the Washington-Morgan Community Action Children's Head Start Program, located in nearby Marietta, Ohio. The donation helped to provide a Christmas party and gifts for 300 local children with special needs. Each child received a puzzle, a coloring book, and a box of pencils. APG employees also collected a large quantity of non-perishable items (e.g. canned foods, paper products, toothbrushes/toothpaste, etc.) during the closing months of 2004. On December 20, 2004, the items were donated to the Belpre Area Ministries (BAM) food pantry just in time for the holidays while many local citizens were still recovering from flood damage earlier this fall. BAM is located at the Rockland Methodist Church in Belpre, Ohio and consists of several local churches that oversee the food pantry. APG plans to continue the weekly donations in 2005. The employees are considering the possibility of making one large donation next holiday season to the Ohio chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organization that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
