NMi VSL organizes proficiency testing schemes (PTS) in a large number of areas, such as chemistry, length, mechanics, temperature, DC, and low frequency measurements. Several participants of the PTS have requested NMi VSL to have the PTS organisation accredited. In response to this request, in 2004 NMi VSL started preparing for the accreditation for a number of the PTS. It regards the PTS in the field of pressure measurements and natural gas analysis, and also for a gas analysis PTS that is specially organised for Shell laboratories. In 2004, the Dutch Counsel for Accreditation (RvA) carried out an audit on the basis of a combination of ILAC G13:2000 "Guidelines for the Requirements for the Competence of Providers of Proficiency Testing Schemes" and ISO/IEC 17025:1999 "General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories". On April 21, 2005, the audit was successfully concluded and resulted in the accreditation of the activities. The PTS in the field of pressure measurement are the first physical PTS in Europe that have been accredited.
On April 28, 2005, the director of RvA, J. van der Poel, presented the certificate (R 006) to the director of sciences of NMi VSL, E.W.B. de Leer.
