APG's employees, along with family and friends, recently participated in the Relay for Life, a fund-raising event sponsored by the American Cancer Society. From 6pm on May 13 through noon on May 14, volunteers walked in one-hour shifts to raise money for the wonderful cause at a local Belpre, Ohio park.
Prior to the event, APG held a luncheon to raise money for a group donation where employees paid $5 to eat, and local businesses donated door prizes to aid in the effort. In addition, APG volunteers raised money by requesting donations from friends and family. In all, APG raised approximately $1100; the money will help to further cancer research. The APG team created a banner that was signed by all employees, and they spent the night hanging out at a pop-up camper loaned by APG's General Manager, Gregg Frazier.
The Belpre Relay for Life was a success, as it had a monetary goal of $160,000, and it had surpassed that goal by 8am on May 14, with four more hours still left to walk! Local businesses, churches, and individuals participated in the race, and local food merchants graciously donated large amounts of food for the volunteers. Everyone involved had a great time and felt that they were really making a difference in the fight against cancer.
Due to its overwhelming success, APG plans to participate in the Relay annually, and organizers anticipate raising more money each year.
