GLEMP's Organizational Momentum Demonstrated
Although just a general concept, brainstormed by several representatives from industry only a few short months ago, the Global Laboratory Evaluation & Management Program (GLEMP) was successfully formed in February of 2006. In this brief period, GLEMP's initial membership has already reached 14 companies, and may soon swell to over 20 members. GLEMP's membership exclusively represents those companies from industry that are users of commercial laboratory services. Any involvement in providing commercial laboratory services prohibits eligibility for GLEMP membership --- in order to eliminate potential conflicts of interest (access to competitor performance data). Click here to view the list of significant industrial companies currently comprising GLEMP's membership. GLEMP's current membership truly represents forward-thinking, success-oriented enterprises committed to effective environmental management programs.
GLEMP Members: In Pursuit of Quality Laboratory Services
GLEMP's members are joining for a variety of reasons. One significant reason, as cited by many of GLEMP's initial members, is to allow them to identify and monitor the performance (accuracy and defensibility) of their current laboratories. GLEMP members will also be provided access to the performance evaluation data for other GLEMP-participating laboratories --- which they may consider engaging to provide future laboratory services. GLEMP members will be able to quantify the confidence that their laboratory service providers will offer. That analytical confidence translates to greater certainty as relates to regulatory reporting and environmental control process effectiveness monitoring. Additionally, it introduces a tangible cost factor for the pursuit of quality laboratory services/support. Clearly, access to the performance data outcomes for laboratories is a much-sought improvement over the all-too-basic criteria of "laboratory accreditation/favorable PT outcomes". GLEMP's initial members are those that are seeking to manage the analytical accuracy and defensibility of their environmental data.
Laboratory Participation in GLEMP
In order to provide your customers and potential customers with your laboratory's performance evaluation data, you must "opt-in" as a GLEMP participating laboratory. Current laboratory clients of Analytical Products Group, Inc. (APG) proficiency testing programs need only to check the box to "opt-in" for your laboratory to be identifiable by GLEMP members. This option is provided on every proficiency test data reporting form (both hard copy reporting and electronic submittal). There is no extra cost to laboratories for inclusion of their proficiency testing data in the GLEMP program. For laboratories not currently using APG for proficiency testing services, you can complete the GLEMP laboratory interest form and return it to GLEMP's administrative staff. The GLEMP laboratory interest form can be found here. GLEMP administrative staff will follow up on each inquiry form returned to answer any questions about the program.
More information is available at the GLEMP website (www.glemp.org) or by calling the GLEMP administrative offices in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at +1 (412) 826-5003.
