DMRQA Multiple Methods

Article by Mike Haller, Operations Manager

APG provides the DMRQA reporting tools that are essential for contract laboratories (also known as commercial laboratories).  Five years ago, APG was one of the first PT providers to offer online data entry.  Every year since, APG has refined the process to make the DMRQA process hassle-free for contract laboratories and NPDES permit holders.

Multiple Method Reporting
Reporting multiple methods for DMRQA is a requirement for many labs.  Often, a lab will run a certain method for a percentage of NPDES permit holders and run another method for the rest of the NPDES permit holders.  APG’s online data entry system allows labs to report multiple methods.  While a lab is in the DMRQA data reporting system, simply click the “Add Method” button located on the top-right of the form.

Data Reporting Packages
Running the tests is only half of the DMRQA process.  The lab must also relay the data to the NPDES permit holders that have requested data.  Please remember that it is the NPDES permit holders responsibility to report the data to APG.  However, APG makes it easy for labs to relay their data.  The lab must report only the data that was requested by the NPDES permit holder - not all data to maintain the confidentiality of the study.  This confidentiality is a critical requirement of the DMRQA Announcement Letter.  Unfortunately, this requirement can create a tremendous paperwork burden for the lab.  APG has the solution.

After the lab data is submitted, reporting packages can be assembled to streamline the relaying of data.  Click the “Create New Reporting Package” button on the screen.  Then, locate the permit holder from a listing of all NPDES permits.  Finally, select the analytes and methods to be included in the package.

Once the package is saved, it is automatically emailed to the lab.  The package contains the lab’s data that was released, pre-populated EPA forms, and instructions for the permit holder to complete the reporting process.  The lab then has the option of emailing, faxing, or mailing the package to the NPDES permit holder.
